5.15: Follow the Leader

Sorry for the delay folks, let's get to it!

Right off the bat I'll put my foot out there and say that the 70s Losties are not going to change the future. My theory is based on a couple reasons, but mostly because of what we've seen happen since Dan started trying to alter events. The biggest is him telling Dr. Chang that he's from the future and Miles is his son, thus getting Chang to trust Miles' recommendation to evacuate the Island. We see the only way he can get his wife and baby Miles to leave is to order them (quite harshly) to leave, thus resulting in his mother's hatred of his father and Chang's abandoment of them. This wouldn't have happened in Miles' past if Dan hadn't told Change to evacuate everyone, so I don't see Dan's actions affecting the future. Any Devil's advocates out there?? :)

As for Richard's comment about watching the Losties die, yeah I'm pretty intrigued by that...John saving himself was pretty cool, definitely didn't see that coming. It's interesting how he likes to twist the knife into Ben everytime he experiences something from the Island "what, the Island never told you things Ben?" I'm also very interested to hear why John wants to kill Jacob.

The situation w/ Jack and Kate is hard, Jack's not even thinking about the life he'd be sending Kate back to if 815 lands as planned; convicted and jailed by her own mother. Not to mention the non existance of their relationship, which you can tell really hurt Kate. Juliette's instant wave of jealousy everytime she sees Kate is getting a little old, like on the sub, where's the confident unshakable Juliette we've known the last couple years?

So the finale is two hours which I guess techinically gives us 17 episodes? One word, stingy, but this season is arguably the best one yet IMO, so I guess I can't be too whiny. :)

p.s. hope you like the new layout, the reversed out text was a bit hard to read...

The whole time loop is an if/then mind frak.

If this loop keeps playing out over and over again, then it would seem to me that Eloise is the key to changing the sequence of events.

Future Eloise knows she is sending Daniel to be shot dead by her younger self. If she wanted to change events, she would coach Daniel in how to approach her in the Hostiles' camp without getting killed...unless she feels it's important that he does get killed for some reason.

If the future is altered and Oceanic doesn't crash, then won't the absence of Jack and Co's efforts to get back to the island, detonate the bomb, and prevent the future crash cause it to happen anyway?

I love the brain exercise but I sure don't grasp all the nuances. Great fun soaking it in, though.

I don't think they will actually be able to change the future either.

I also suspect that Locke's wanting to "kill" Jacob is not as it seems. Either he is just messing with Ben trying to manipulate him or Locke doesn't literally mean "kill". This whole killing Jacob thing is pretty out of left field. Maybe it is more that Locke is just trying to "kill" the mystery that surrounds Jacob so he can better understand the island.

ah, I like your read on that David, that Locke wants to "kill" the mysteriousness of Jacob rather than physically kill him. Considering Jacob seems to be something like a ghost I wouldn't even know if that was possible.

Sidenote, I'd love to know how Jacob relates to Christian, Jack's father, whose spirit also seems tied to the Island somehow. And where in the world has Claire been all this time? Did she experience the time jumps like the other Losties or stay in some protective bubble w/ Christian?

DAMMIT ABC I'm so sick of them advertising a 2-hour show when the first hour is just a recap, grrr...

SRG...

Please tell me you didn't turn it off after the first hour. ABC advertised a 3-hour special, and a 2-hour season finale.

All I can say... is what I have said repeatedly.
Wow! Wow, wow, wow.

and...

whoa!

I just don't know any other show that has been able to consistently wind up the tension ever tighter with ever episode. Even my beloved Alias found they had wound it too tight, and it cut off the circulation at the end.

The same could be said about Battlestar Galactica, that was just a lack of aim in the final season. No other TV show is touching LOST. I am very impressed.

Thankfully another friend clued me in that I had my schedule wrong, so I was up watching w/ the rest of y'all. That was an incredible finale, I couldn't sleep worth crap last night my mind was racing like crazy. New post is now up!
