Stranger in a Strange Land

Ok so I ended up watching the episode last night after all. We learned the source of Jack's tattoos and the weird form of a judicial system the Others have, but not a whole lot else. Here's a summary:

- Jack had a relationship while on vacation with a woman who claimed to be some sort of tattoo-fortune teller. For some reason tattooing Jack was against "her people," so after he made her mark him as "he walks amongst us though is not one of us," he was basically kicked out of the country.

- Kate feels guilty about sleeping with Sawyer, he thinks she only did it because she thought he was going to die, drama/tension ensues...

- Everyone the Others have kidnapped (to have a "better" life as Carl says...wonder if that comes from the brainwashing) is healthy and happy. We see them staring at Jack in his cage like he's a zoo animal. One of the flight stewardesses is there and says they came to "watch"...watch what?? The kids are there too, all dressed well and weirded out by Jack yelling at them to leave. I'm hoping they explain what they've been doing all this time someday...

- The Others' law system follows the "eye for an eye" mentality. Juliette helped Kate and Sawyer escape by killing Danny, so she goes on trial where the end result would be her execution. It's obvious Jack cares about her because he agrees to be Ben's beck-and-call doctor in order to save her life. The show ends (with honestly quite a cheesy slow-mo montage) of Kate and Sawyer making their way back to camp and Jack and Juliette boating their way to where the Others live. I wonder if we'll get to see that next week...thoughts??

This is a good show, but it sure ain't ALIAS. The revelations come way too slow. I get a little sick to my stomach when things happen and our "heores" of the story never say anything about it, never demand and answer, never say, "Hey, you were on the crashed plane, you know the terrors of what happened to the survivors, how can you stand there looking shocked at my reaction to your coming to watch? ...and watch what?! Answer me!"

Are we seriously supposed to believe that a tatooist in an Asian country somehow has the ability to see the essence of a person and that putting marks on his skin somehow does something to him? I was having trouble accepting the smoke-monster, but at least they gave an attempt at being forthright about it being rediculous. They haven't really made an attempt at making any sense of anything in the show. I'm honestly getting disillusioned.

ALIAS fans are exceptionally perceptive, and great at seeing the bigger picture, how all the loose parts begin to jell into a coherant package. If they are losing us, how are the less TV-savy folks reacting to the nonsensical, unresolved, and endless plotlines? They better start drawing it all together soon. I'd hate for LOST to die a premature death.

Anyone with me?

yeah I hear ya robby, especially your last point that if they're losing Alias viewers, how the hell are they holding on to everyone else? I honestly started watching Lost for the sole reason that it was created by JJ, who I loved because of Alias. The beginning of season 1 didn't capture me but I kept watching because of JJ. I loved season 2, but they seriously have to start answering some questions before creating so many more.

I'm really beginning to wonder if "Lost" is nothing more than a lost cause. I've got to the point where I don't know what this show is about.

When I started watching, all the attention was on Claire and the baby, now Claire and the baby have no meaningful role in the show. People were after the baby. Not anymore.

We spent a whole season in the hatch, punching the numbers. Locke saw a freaky kaleidoscope map on the wall and I thought we were finally getting somewhere. Now Locke is a bit player, and not a very big bit at that.

Hurley was the number dude. He knew the numbers by heart, they brought him great wealth and much pain. He had a brief romantic skirmish with whatshername (like that would happen in real life), now she's dead and Hurley shows up less often than the Maytag repair man.

Sayed was once a key player, I can't even recall if we've seen him twice this season.

Ana Lucia, Eko, that whole gang was introduced and killed off in the space of a season. Eko had a wild ride but now he's fertilizer, just as dead as Ana Lucia, and, yes, killed by smoke.

Jack is now living with the Others, apparently succumbing to Juliette's charms.

And, so, after 4 seasons (is it 4?), what the hell have we accomplished on this show and how long do we have to hang in there to find out whether this thing is pure genius or pure BS?

Robetron, you called it, this ain't no "Alias". "Alias" moved at warp speed and gave us enough information that we didn't get thrown off at the sudden changes in direction.

"Lost", on the other hand, is like a roller coaster stuck at the top. We're all anticipating a hell of a ride, but we can't seem to get a push, no matter how patiently we wait. "Lost" is playing out as if the writers anticipate a 12 year run. With ratings dropping off, look for cancellation and a rapid conclusion long before that 12th season.

I think a question worth asking is this: is JJ brilliant or is he a lifetime .200 hitter who just happened to hit a home run with "Alias"?

This is only the 3rd season, but it sure is dragging. I can see why you thought it was the 4th. Just to answer a question--Cindy and the others were on their way to watch Juliet's trial...you can see them in the "court room" area.
I really hated this episode. And I was so disappointed because I loved last weeks episode with Desmond (my fave character). I thought the show was getting back on track. But this episode was just dumb. And it made me like Jack a lot less for some reason.
I really don't think JJ has much to do with the show anymore. He helped start it, but I doubt he's making any decisions. It's mostly Damon L. and Carlton C.
I think the show has become too complicated. They are putting more questions out there than answers and it's not working.
Just bring back Hurley, Sayid, and Locke!!!! We miss them.

ohhh good call anon, I didn't pick up that the group was there to watch the trial, that makes sense. I think we'll get to see our old friends in this week's episode when Kate and Sawyer get back to camp. I agree that the previous episode was quite good with Desmond, I'm very curious about what's going to happen to Charlie. Chances are I'll record tonight's eppy since it's on past my bedtime (I know, I sound like an old lady), but a recap will come eventually, I'd really like to keep this blog going (tell your friends!!) :)
