Two for the Road by SRG

I don’t know about you guys, but the shocker endings of both Lost and Alias caused me some major problems trying to fall asleep last night! Here’s a little summary of the events surrounding the characters:

Anna Lucia Flashbacks
Covering her tracks well, Anna made the murder of her attacker practically anonymous, but her mother/Captain knew otherwise. Scared that her mom knew her secret, Anna runs away to Australia with a guy she met at the bar…a guy who just happens to be Jack’s drunk of a father. He claims he needs her “protection” for a task he needs to do over there. Whether or not they were lovers is unclear, I’m thinking they might have been drunken lovers, but they had separate hotel rooms, what do you guys think? She drives him to a house where he confronts a woman and claims he wants to see his daughter…who knows what that was about. Anna decides she’s had enough of her time with him and wants to go home, so she leaves him at a bar (where he eventually meets Sawyer) and books Oceanic Flight 815 to fly home. Does anyone else notice a theme of Jack’s dad being involved with many of the characters?

Locke
John wakes up to the sound of Henry attacking and trying to kill Anna. He saves her life by hitting Henry over the head with one of his crutches. Later on, John is perplexed as to why Henry tried to kill Anna when he could have easily hurt or killed John when he was trapped under the door. Henry claims that John is one of the “good ones” and his mission was to bring John back to his people. You can tell John is very intrigued by these words, but isn’t able to ask Henry more about it because Jack and Kate shout for his help as they bring in Michael unconscious.

Michael
After waking up, Michael claims that he found the Others and they’re living worse off than the crash victims. Other than having their own hatch, where he believes the children including Walt are being held, he says they’re basically defenseless and would be easily defeated. Later on he gets up from resting to find Anna upset holding the gun she stole away from Sawyer by seducing him. She explains that she couldn’t bring herself to shoot Henry and Michael says he’ll do it, so she gives him the gun and the lock combination for the cell door. It’s the last thing she ever does…Michael says “I’m sorry” and shoots her in the stomach. Unfortunate Libby walks in on the scene as she’s getting wine for a picnic with Hurley, and in his shock Michael shoots her as well. He opens the cell door, looks at Henry, and shoots himself in the shoulder. THE END

Extremely shocking turn of events at the end, I was totally blown away (no pun intended)! At first I thought Michael killed himself, but from the previews for next week, it looks like he shot himself to make it look like he was also a victim and frame Henry for the shootings. There are at least two possible theories about why he did this…first he could have been brainwashed by the Others to turn on the crash victims. It’s possible that he’s leading them into a trap by saying the Others are defenseless and they should take them. OR he’s fulfilling some kind of deal he made with the Others to get Walt back. He looked extremely shocked at what he had just done when he shot Anna and Libby…if he had been turned evil you’d think he wouldn’t have looked so disturbed by his actions. Some questions I’ve come up with are why they would reveal Libby’s truth about being in the same mental hospital as Hurley and then kill her? Or that Anna was only in Australia because of Jack’s dad, then kill her? It was like finding out Jack was basically responsible for Shannon’s dad dying, then she died too. They seem to be revealing interesting plots from the characters’ back stories and then promptly ending them with death, which I don’t understand. What do you guys think??

-I agree about Claire possibly being Jack's half sister, though her mom looks really young!

-I don't think Henry is THE leader of the others, cuz he could have easily died, but he could be up there in ranking. The 'bearded' dude doesn't seem like the leader either, i wonder who is...

-Remember Claire saying it was ok for them to kill her and take her baby? Of course drugs were invovled, but I think perhaps a mix of brainwashing and drugs, which could have happened to Mike. Could have. The other theory still works now too except he looks really evil in the promo....

So here's my question... They had this great storyline setup with Hurley seeing Libby in the mental hospital. Remember how they showed Libby right at the end of that one in the dining area? So... how are we ever going to know why she was there and see whether Hurley realizes who she is. It just seems like a strange thing for JJ to do. Just totally drop a story for no reason. So I'm wondering if Libby is really dead. We just saw her fall. We know Anna Lucia is dead (She said so on GMA the other morning) but maybe Libby is not really dead. ???

Sorry, SRG, I guess I didn't read that last paragraph very well where you talk about why they killed off Libby after just introducing her story. Sorry. I just expounded on it a little... ;)

I was reading an article on lost-media [Why Did Lost Kill Ana Lucia?]
which had an interview with Cuse and Lidelof and it talked about the 'coincidence' between the two actresses that had DUI's on the same night a few months ago being killed off suddenly. Although they tried to rationalise it, it didn't seem very concrete.

I was watching an interview with Ana Lucia yesterday and she made it pretty clear or at least led me to beleive that Libby was probablly not dead. She was Very clear about the fact that she knew from the time she started with the show that she would be killed off now. It apparently was planned from the beginning so I dont think it had anything to do with her DUI. Plus, seeing how JJ works, he always seems to have everything mapped out, somewhat anyway, before he goes into a series. He has stated in the past that, with ALIAS anyway, he knew the whole story, the beggining and the end, before he started. I guess you would have to in order for it to all come together to make sense.
As far as Michael goes, My own speculation is that he is being brainwashed in some way. I'm not sure what about it made me thingthat but that was my first thought when he took that gun. I am sure that we will have some answers next week. Hopefully they will throw us a little more of the puzzle to work with!

wow, great responses everyone! I also like the idea of Claire being Jack's half-sister. I'm not sure about Henry being the leader of the Others, but I think it's possible, he's certainly manipulative enough. The looks on Michael's face do lend themselves to him being himself when he did the shooting and only doing it out of force to get his son back. I agree his look when he shot himself really did say "I'm only doing this because I have to".

No problem birdie. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one who's confused about the killings. I agree Boone's story was pretty runout when they killed him, but it seems the deaths lately have been so premature because there would good plots associate with them. Oh well, we have to have a little faith in JJ I suppose! I can't see him and the writers changing the storylines because of outside influences like DUIs, but it sure seems coincidental. Maybe you guys are right and Libby's not dead. I agree she did a GREAT job in the shooting scene though, it would be hard to make that believable and I think she did. Can't wait for next week! :)

Great start on the blog, everyone!

A couple of thoughts:

- Why did Kate and Jack not say anything to Michael when he told them that "The Others" were unsophisticated and living in tents, etc. They both know that "The Others" are more sophisticated and high-tech (b/c of the hatch that Kate, Rousseau & Claire found). So, they should have at least been suspcious and questioned Michael a little there, I think.

- I do think that from the scenes it looks like Michael will blame the shootings on Henry Gale. This only works, however, if both girls die. Otherwise, couldn't Libby tell everyone that Michael, not Henry, shot them? Perhaps Libby (if she lives) will have amnesia or has another reason to help Michael/lie? (I've always suspected her as one of "the Others")

- Interesting flash-backs last week about Jack's dad. Here's a crazy thought- they found Jack's dad's coffin on the island, right? Well, we've seen how the island has "healing" properties for a lot of the people... what if Jack's dad is alive? What if he is the leader of "The Others"? Thoughts?

oh wow, Jack's dad as the leader of the Others, love that theory!! Although I get the impression they were on the island way before the plane crashed there.
